What is somatic breathwork?

Deriving from the word ‘soma’ meaning body

Somatic Breathwork is a healing modality that uses the breath to bring us into ourselves, into our bodies, and into our nervous system to clear out the areas where we are storing stress, unreleased emotions, and even trauma.

When we store things in our bodies that need to be released it creates dis-ease within our bodies. Our nervous system has a more difficult time trying to regulate itself which leaves us walking around feeling disregulated and on the verge of breaking at any moment.

In a Somatic Breathwork session we use our breath to activate our sympathetic nervous system which activates our stress response. This is where the clearing happens. Then once we’ve cleared, we switch to using our breath to activate our parasympathetic nervous system which calms, relaxes, and allows for rest. This is where the repatterning happens. Where we replace the stress, limiting beliefs, and unexpressed emotions we’ve cleared out with all of the things that we want. How do you want to feel? How do you want to show up in the world? Who are you without all the baggage you’ve been holding inside your nervous system? Let’s find out.
